Seattle
1Gay Seattle
Oz has nothing on the true Emerald City, also known as Seattle. Long derided as a haven for rain-lovers, there’s a big secret that Seattleites like to hold close: It actually rains less than most cities in the US, including New York City!
In fact, Seattle is only the 48th wettest in the nation. The Emerald City has developed this wet reputation thanks to some inaccurate media portrayals, as well as the fact that, from October to May, there aren’t many days without precipitation. Its wet, but it doesn’t really rain all that much. So put away your umbrellas, throw on a waterproof outer layer and experience the city like a true Seattleite. The Olympic Mountains ring the city, and on clear days, the impressive Mount Rainier is a constant reminder of the city’s outstanding natural setting. Camping, hiking, kayaking, swimming, skiing, snowboarding, climbing…Seattle is an unparalleled base for nature lovers, and it has built a relaxed vibe that caters to a lifestyle facilitated by the natural environs.
Of course, a coffee culture also permeates Seattle thanks to the now-ubiquitous Starbucks that originated down at the largest public market in the country, the Pike Place Market. Boutique coffeeshops create coffee cults that are more intense than some sports teams, and the sports teams in Seattle rival many of those worldwide – the Seattle Sounders soccer club is one of the top five clubs in the world according to attendance!
Passion in Seattle as clear as Rainier, with an active hive of artists re-appropriating Pioneer Square, creative industries flourishing in the shadows of corporate giants Amazon and Microsoft, and a quality of life that makes Seattle a wonderful place for active and adventurous travelers.
